The best house is like this: we are in it. Not knowing where nature ends, Art begins there.
The life of a house is its beauty, which is very important for human beings. If there are many solutions to a problem, architecture is the one that conveys beauty and emotion to users.
Truly excellent architecture, infused with soul and poetry, is art with vitality, is solidified music, and can endure. We have selected 7 of the snug house in the world.
01
Healing Stay KOSMOS
KOSMOS was built on the edge of a cliff with views of elephant rock, and the unique environment required a unique architectural style. This vacation house was inspired by the swirling skies of planets and stars.
The resort’s two snow-white buildings, Villa Cosmos and Villa Tera are carved into a curvacious combination that suggests both the celestial movements of the sun and moon and the undulating landscape.
The stone floor is in a neutral blue-gray tone, the swooping, and sloping walls and ceilings are in white, and the public space on the ground floor is sparsely furnished with modern elements, making the landscape central.
In the lounge, guests can relax in front of the magnificent views of Elephant Rock, while in the cathedral-like dining room, they can enjoy the views while sitting at custom-made oak tables.
Each bedroom has a different view of natural phenomena. You can enjoy the sunrise, sunset, pine ridge, and elephant rock, and enjoy yourself in the embrace of nature.
02
Oak Pass
The Oak Pass house sits on top of a ridge overlooking the canyon, surrounded by more than 130 Oak trees that need to be protected.
The main oak house has an upside-down design, with public spaces above the bedrooms, which are buried in the mountains under a green herb roof.
The 8,000-square-foot house blends into the surrounding landscape, with a 75-foot-high swimming pool with infinite edges on three of the four sides, dividing the house in two and extending beneath the largest oak tree.
The house is mainly made of concrete, the upper floors are limestone, and all the building materials follow the principle of returning to nature.
03
PPA architectures
Drawer House is based on the model of a “large residential area” prevailing in 1960. Large ribbon-shaped buildings stand on the outside of the site, enclosing the site, and the whole floor looks like an open drawer from the outside.
Due to the unique and vivid appearance of the building, it injects vitality into the whole residential area virtually. With the open balcony, the apartment maximizes the collection of light and air from the outside. Not only the air convection throughout the building is particularly good, but daylighting is also a great feature of its reputation.
Comfortable and open balconies, built-in gardens, and expansive views make this vegetation-covered, double-height balcony house an ideal home for urbanites.
04
Speelpleinstraat
The nursery is set in a park surrounded by tall trees. After careful consideration of the surroundings, the designer came up with a way to adapt the nursery to local conditions. The building is designed as a pavilion within the park, as if it were connected to the park, complementing its surroundings.
So you see the whole nursery building is big but smooth, the gentle texture of the logs, creating a sense of architectural fluency with a harmonious line. And seemingly simple architecture, in fact, contains rich scientific knowledge.
The whole building fully utilizes the earth’s thermal mass principle to promote the building’s absorption of the earth’s thermal mass through thermal accessibility and high thermal inertia. Thus, the energy demand of the building itself is reduced, and the internal temperature and comfort of the building are effectively guaranteed.
05
Oesterbye Retreat House
If you hike along with the scenic Rieland Center Nature Trail, you’ll pass this unadorned and simple log cabin. The surrounding vegetation remains pristine, so when you first see the cabin, you feel as if you are floating in a sea of green.
You don’t see the concrete here, because it becomes the material for the building platform and the whole ground floor, in a secret way, to keep the whole house in a solid-state. But on the ground, you can see the original wooden buildings, as if nurtured by the natural forest.
The design process of the whole building fully considers the interaction with nature. In particular, the ceiling height of 7 meters makes the whole space very open. Through the windowsill connected to the outside, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake, the forest, and the sky.
06
Pixelated Tower
The Pixel Building, located at 6 Stasinu Street, contains street retail space, office space, detached apartments, and a rooftop pool. The north facade features large balconies facing the mountains, while the two sides of the building are perforated with pixelated patterns, full of art and technology.
The balcony is like a private garden, overflowing with plants, making the whole building haphazard and full of life.
The back of the building faces south and is exposed to direct sunlight. The architects planted lush vegetation on each floor to act as a natural barrier to the view.
07
Sunflower House
The Sunflower House sits on a cliff edge over the Mediterranean Sea with stunning views of Cape Creus, a rocky peninsula a few kilometers south of the French border near the Spanish coast of Brava.
The design of the house is derived from the double satisfaction of the landscape and the sun. Like a sunflower, it turns its head to follow the sun, and each room extends in a different direction to optimize the sun’s exposure and to give a broad view of the sea.
Seen from a distance, the protruding cube looks like a geometrically abstract modernist sculpture. The white building stands out against the lush rocks and shrubs on the cliff edge. The ever-changing landscape of the open sea outside the house is undoubtedly a great enjoyment for the occupants.
The house was built entirely out of local materials, except for the high-tech glass that is common in skyscrapers, which withstands not only wind gusts and the sun but also the extreme humidity of coastal areas.
Inside, the white DE minimalism aesthetic gives the interior a neutral quality. In this atmosphere, the deep blue sea and the changeable sky bring a feeling of passing through the stars.
